Randi Stone, founder of NYC Pilates, studied authentic Pilates in a prestigious independent study with one of Joseph Pilates’ protégés, is certified in Power Pilates Mat, pre- and post-natal fitness and Diastasis Rehab (The Tupler Technique), as well as The M.E.L.T. Method® (MELT) – a self-treatment technique that helps prevent pain, heal injury, and erase the negative effects of aging and active living. Randi looks at each individual’s body as a puzzle, trying to piece together the needs of the client based upon his/her strengths and weaknesses, body type and interests.
Randi trains all body types and caters to people with varied interests - men and woman who want to increase their flexibility; people who want to strengthen and lengthen their muscles for a longer and leaner look; people recovering from injuries; new mothers seeking to regain their pre-pregnancy bodies and athletes seeking to improve sports performance and prevent injury. Clients range from professional athletes and trainers of professional sports teams and Broadway dancers to pre-and post natal women and people recuperating from injuries and trauma, like strokes, as well as corporate clients like the New York Times and Viacom-MTV.
Randi began Pilates in the late 90s after back surgery. It is the only form of exercise that addressed asymmetries in the musculature of her back that result from Scoliosis strengthening the weaker muscles and lengthening the tighter muscles - thus dramatically improving her posture. Pilates alleviated her formerly chronic back pain and provided strength and flexibility to remain active through 37 weeks of a twin pregnancy. Today it keeps her fit so she can keep up with her five-year-old twins!
Pre- and Post-Natal Pilates
Randi practiced Pilates throughout a 37 week pregnancy with twins. She is certified in the Tupler Technique – Diastasis Rehab, took in-house pre and post-natal certification while teaching at the Sports Club LA and has participated in numerous courses pertaining to pregnancy and fitness.
Randi has personally trained hundreds of pregnant and post-natal clients privately and in a group classes.
Finally, Randi has taught Pre and post-natal continuing education courses to Pilates instructors at prominent Pilates studios throughout Manhattan, including Uptown Pilates, the Center Studio and Equinox (85th and 3rd Ave.), and is the co-founder of Movin' Mamas, a Pilates-based mom and baby stroller class.
